BATH Joseph Lukens Jones IV, 76, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2008, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Philadelphia on March 23, 1931, a son of Dorothy Keely and Joseph L. Jones III. He was educated at Penn Charter and Lafayette College.

He was a lieutenant in the Korean War, returning to Beverly, Mass., to work in long-range planning at United Shoe Machinery. He then moved to a career in sales and financial planning. His success led to becoming a lifetime member of the Million Dollar Roundtable while he was associated with Northwestern Mutual. He was active in Beverly community affairs, serving on the board of trustees for Landmark School (1982 to 1996), and was a long-time Rotarian. At the time of his death, and for the past 30 years, he was a residential and commercial real estate broker.
In 2004, he and his wife Betsy, relocated to Bath, where he opened his real estate office, Jones Co., and continued his participation in local community activities. He was a member of the Southern Midcoast Maine Chamber of Commerce, the Maine Association of Professional Consultants, and Midcoast Commerce Connection.
He loved spending time with his five children and ten grandchildren, always teaching them something new. He was an adventurer and traveled extensively worldwide with his wife. He was an avid sailor and skier, and enjoyed reading and learning new things. Those who knew him will remember his generosity, work ethic and integrity.
Surviving are his wife, Betsy, of 43 years; a son, Joseph "Jay" Jones V and his wife, Tina, of Denver, Colo.; four daughters, Claire Denton Grant and her husband, Kenneth, of Bath, Deborah Jones Latimer and her husband, David, of Austin, Texas, Laura Denton Gauld and her husband, Malcolm, of Bath, and Elisabeth Denton Crittenden and her husband, Jacob, of Pittsburgh, Pa.; two sisters-in-law Rose Marie Jones of Lafayette Hill, Pa., and Joan Forrest Brown and her husband, Glenn, of Java, Va.; 10 grandchildren; one niece; and three nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother, Robert S. Jones.
A celebratory service will be held on July 5 for family and friends.
